Healthcare aid fraud in Colorado
Plus: A new ‘ask me anything’ series
⚕️ This week, I talked with investigative journalist David Migoya about his reporting that led authorities to investigate allegations of Medicaid fraud, as well as why healthcare aid is susceptible to fraud and what Colorado is doing about the issue.
David’s reporting showed that a Colorado home health company raked in millions of taxpayer dollars through Medicaid – in part by recruiting homeless people as patients and putting them up in houses while profiting by providing them with taxpayer-funded health care.
After David’s reporting came out, the company was suspended from Medicaid while authorities investigate what one agency called “credible allegations of fraud.”
In the first video, we started by talking about how “The Program” worked.
Healthcare aid fraud has been making lots of headlines recently in Colorado, and in the second video, we went deeper on what makes health care aid susceptible to fraud.
So what is the state doing about it? In the third video, we talked about how local investigative reporting has put pressure on Colorado to do more to tackle the issue.
